King Tut exhibit underway at the Children's Museum

Canopic Stopper at the King Tut exhibit.Over 100 treasures from the tomb of King Tut and other important rulers from 2,000 years of ancient Egyptian history is now on exhibit until October 25, 2009, at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, 3000 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis.

This blockbuster exhibit will feature the largest image of King Tut ever found—a 10-foot statue that may have originally stood at his mortuary temple and retains much of its original paint, one of four gold and precious-stone-inlaid canopic jars and CT scans of Tut's mummy. Many of these artifacts have never visited the United States.

Besides artifacts related to Tutankhamun, the exhibit will focus on the splendor of the Egyptian pharaohs, their function in the earthly and divine worlds, and what kingship meant to the Egyptian people.

The exhibition is organized by National Geographic, Arts and Exhibitions International and AEG Exhibitions, with cooperation from the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities. Northern Trust is the proud cultural partner of the tour, and American Airlines is the official airline.

For more information, visit the Children's Museum Web site at http://www.childrensmuseum.org, or call 317-334-3322. Children's Museum on AroundIndy.com...

Mike Milligan and Steam Shovel at The Earth House

Mike Milligan and Steam Shovel at The Earth House, July 11.

FROM THE EDITOR. You look around. No horns. No keyboards. No backup singers. No fancy setup or elaborate rigging. Just two guitarists and a drummer. You say to yourself: "Just three guys. How good can this be?" Then the music begins. And the groove's gotcha!

This is no house band or garage band. No pretenders or posers here. These guys are the real deal. They can flat-out play. Indiana's own Mike Milligan and Steam Shovel has appeared on the same bill with BB King, Al Green, Tower of Power, and others. They've appeared at some of the best music venues in the Midwest from the Indy Jazz Fest to the House of Blues in Chicago and Cleveland. Their music is infectious. When they catch the groove, there's nobody better at what they do. It's a full, robust sound with a vibrant mix of blues, jazz, soul, R&B, and some of the most impressive guitar work you will ever see. And sometimes I swear I can hear a little B-3 organ in there, although I can see clearly that there's no organ on stage.

So here's a chance to see them live in the intimate setting of The Earth House in downtown Indianapolis. Mike and Shaun and Tiny are my friends, so yes, I'm going to show a little bias and personal favoritism here. I'm happy to recommend the live show if you've never heard the band.

For a complete schedule of upcoming appearances, visit http://mikemilligan.homestead.com/Bandcalendar.html. For more information or to book the band, call 765-437-7559.

I hope you'll check 'em out! It's a good show. —Ed.

No conflict of interest here. Just my thoughts straight from the heart.
Mike didn't ask me to do this, and the guys probably don't even know this article is posted here.
